Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has said there is an urgent need for Education Minister Peter Weir to bring forward solutions to the exam grading crisis.

The North Antrim MLA said:

“I have been contacted by many parents, pupils, and teachers from right across North Antrim, and from various schools, deeply concerned about how exam grades have been dealt with by the Education Minister. Many children are in total despair at their grades being downgraded for no apparent reason putting their University places and future in jeopardy.

“Quite clearly an urgent resolution to this crisis is required.

“Sinn Féin’s priority is to find a workable and fair solution. In pursuit of this objective, we will be presenting practical proposals to the Education Minister over the weekend in an effort to find a way forward as ultimately, it is his responsibility to bring forward a solution which is both flexible and fair.

“If recalling the Assembly is necessary to achieve a resolution of the issue then we will ensure that this happens.”
