NI track & trace app to be available from next week

The Department of Health committee have been informed that the Northern Ireland version of a track & trace app will be available from next week.

Dan West, the chief digital information officer for the department, has said the app will be called ‘Stop Covid NI’.

As a compliment to the current phone track and trace programme, the app will automatically notify a person who has been in close contact with a COVID-19 positive case.

How it works

A person who tests positive for COVID-19, will be sent a unique ID number by text. If that person uses the app, they can enter this code.

This will tell the app to automatically sent notifications to others, also using the app, that were in contact long enough with the person that they may be at a higher risk of the virus.

The app is the first of its kind to go live in the UK, and could be available as early at next week.
