Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:
“I welcome today’s announcement by the Prime Minister that Parliament is to be prorogued. The most common thing I hear from the public is a desire for politicians to get on with implementing the will of the people clearly expressed in the referendum. Three years on the patience of the people has been exhausted.
“To claim that this is about frustrating the will of Parliament is nonsense. MPs voted for the the referendum. MPs voted for the Withdrawal Act. The dreadful deal the EU attempted to force on us when Mrs May was PM was rejected by MPs three times.
“It is time to get on with getting out. Today’s news would appear to bring us closer to implementing the will of the people. Assuming it plays out like that today will be remembered as a good day for democracy.”
