Man accused of hindered sailing of Rathlin Ferry to contest the case

A man accused of ‘Obstructing Lawful Activity’ in relation to the sailing of the Rathlin Ferry in 2020, is to contest the charge against him.

At Coleraine Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ballymena, Robert Currie (77) from Ballynagard Cottages on the island, is accused on June 2 last year of hindered lawful activity namely the sailing of the Rathlin Ferry.

Prosecution confirmed that the defendant wasn’t being prosecuted for any COVID-19 breachs but instead for a public order offence.

Defence Lawyer Niall Campbell requested additional information in the case from the prosecution with District Judge Peter King advised holding off setting a contest date to allow for this further correspondence to be received

The case was adjourned until January 29.
