An Articlave man who was in possession of a firearm following an incident at his home which escalated has appeared in court.

Appearing via Coleraine custody suite at Antrim Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (November 24), David Norris with an address at Sconce Road Articlave was charged with ‘possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence’.

It is understood that on Monday (November 23) an attempted repossession, also on the Sconce Road, by court enforcement officers had escalated and police were called to the scene. Mr Norris is said to have then taken into his possession a firearm.

A Detective told the court that he believed he could connect Mr Norris with the charge and that all firearms have now been seized from the property.

Mr Norris was released on his own bail of £500, ordered to sign bails at Coleraine police station three times a week and must reside at his home address on the Sconce Road. The case was adjourned to Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on December 21.

A Police Spokesperson has said:

”Police investigating an incident at a property in the Articlave area on Monday 23rd November have charged a 55-year-old man with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

”As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the PPS.”
