Councillor clears footpath himself ‘due to lack of resources’

A Causeway Coast & Glens Councillor has taken it upon himself to clear a footpath connecting the main Newbridge Road to the small village of Secon — just outside Ballymoney — after the Department of infrastructure told him they were unable to do so at present ‘due to lack of resources’.

The Ballymoney representative posted a video on the social media platform. TikTok, showing the before and after pictures of the work he carried out on Sunday morning to clear the footpath.

Calling these paths around the town and villages ‘vital’, Councillor Wilson is demanding that these be cleared ahead of a busy spring and summer for walkers, runners and those needing access to and from the town centre.

This isn’t the first time Councillor Wilson has taken it upon himself to carry out work on behalf of other departments, recently repairing one of the wooden planks on a bridge within Riverside Park in Ballymoney due to safety concerns.

The UUP Councillor says he will “continue to lobby the roads service to carry out these works” locally.
