Mr D hanging up his apron

It’s the end of an era after over a decade as Darryl ‘Mr D’ Wilson switches off his fryers for the last time on Friday.

A familiar sight along the Ballymena Road in Ballymoney, Mr D’s chip van has been situated inside the entrance to Doltons Business Park, serving a loyal customer base of locals and passing trade over the years.

Darryl — who also serves as a local Councillor — built the chip van from humble beginnings to the thriving business it is today but has now decided it’s the right time to pass on the ‘apron’ to someone else,

Making the announcement across social media on Thursday, Darryl wrote: “Tomorrow (Friday) will be my very last day at Mr D’s.

“It has been nothing short of an honour and a privilege to serve the people of Ballymoney and beyond for over a decade from my wee trailer.

“However, an offer was made to buy me out…which I couldn’t refuse.

“To the new owners, whom are close personal friends…I wish you all the success and happiness going forward which I enjoyed over the years.

“To my loyal customers, I’ll be forever grateful for your support, we had many many laughs, friendships were forged and on a daily basis the world was put to rights.

Addressing his future plans, Darryl said : “As for me, anyone that knows me knows that I like to stay busy and enjoy new challenges and a new challenge will begin next week.

“Once again from the bottom of my heart…thank you all for your support.

“The KING of the filled soda is stepping aside…Long live the new QUEEN!”
