Report of ‘people gathered’ at a North Coast licensed premises results in Police attendance

Following a report made to Police on Thursday May 28th, officers attended a business on the North Coast regarding ‘people gathered at a licensed premises’.

The premises located in the Glebe Road area of Castlerock, we give guidance by the Police on their obligations to adhere to the ‘Licencing (NI) Order 1996 and also the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) Regulations NI 2020’.

A Police spokesperson has confirmed their attendance, saying:

“Police received a report of people gathered at licenced premises in the Glebe Road area of Castlerock on Thursday 28th May.

“Police attended and a number of people were present at the time. Police spoke to staff around potential breaches of both the Licencing (NI) Order 1996 and also the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) Regulations NI 2020 . Appropriate guidance given to staff at the time. 

“Police received a further report at the premises regarding people gathered in the area on Friday 29th May. Officers attended and no one was present at the time.

Concluding with a reminder of the current regulations:

“If the appropriate licence is in place, there is provision within the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) Regulations NI 2020 for Public Houses to offer food or drink for consumption off the premises. 

“Police would ask everyone to continue to adhere to the NI Executive guidance during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
