Sugden urges everyone to check eligibility for £600 payment and apply asap

EAST Londonderry MLA Claire Sugden has urged all those who may be eligible for the £600 energy support payment, but who have not yet received it, to apply online if they meet the criteria.

People in care homes, those living in a non-domestic property – for instance a flat above a shop – and people living in a residential park home are just a few of those who can apply for the £600 payment.

“While most people will have had their payment made directly into their banks – or by way of cheque through the post – there are as many as 28,000 people in Northern Ireland who are eligible but who may now have to apply themselves in order to receive it,” Ms Sugden said.

“There is a government web page set up where you can see whether you meet the criteria and where you can apply online. I would strongly urge anyone who has not yet received a payment to check as soon as possible.

“People who live off-grid, those on a permanent traveller site or on a boat on a permanent residential mooring are also eligible, so please also visit the site if any of these apply to you.

“The cost of living crisis is affecting everyone and nobody should be left out.

“You should go tohttps://www.gov.uk/apply-energy-bill-support-northern-ireland-if-not-automaticto check the criteria and follow the link to apply if you think you are eligible.

“Quite simply, if you live in Northern Ireland permanently, pay all or part of the energy your household uses or are applying for your main, permanent home then you should apply.

“Don’t miss out on the money you deserve and are entitled to.”
