The much-anticipated Ballymoney Spring Fair is making its return on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th April, and it’s going to be a weekend to remember!

Attendees can look forward to two days of free live music, including special guests Ritchie Remo and Hugo Duncan, along with a wide range of family-friendly activities. The fair is organized by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, sponsored by KRD Credit Union, and supported by Ballymoney Chamber of Commerce and FUSE FM. This year’s event promises to be the biggest and best fair to date.

With various venues hosting activities in the town centre and an even larger selection of have-a-go activities on Seymour Street, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. One exciting addition this year is the introduction of traditional maypole dancing, a spectacle that has never been seen before at the fair.

The fair is eagerly anticipated by Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Margaret Anne McKillop, who expressed her excitement for the event. She believes that the Ballymoney Spring Fair is a fantastic opportunity to showcase what the town centre has to offer to both locals and visitors. Councillor McKillop encourages everyone to bring their friends and family along for two days of fun-filled festivities this April.

On Friday, the fair will kick off with the fantastic Hugo Duncan, who will be broadcasting his BBC Radio Ulster show live from Castlecroft Square. Prior to Hugo’s performance, attendees can join the Spring Fair Tea Dance in Ballymoney Town Hall, where Steve Farlow will provide some old favorites to dance to. No booking is required, so simply show up with your dancing shoes on!

Castlecroft Square will also be alive with live music and entertainment provided by FUSE FM Ballymoney and CJ Entertainments from 11am to 4pm. Additionally, the Visitor Information Centre will host a taste sampling session of award-winning local artisan products from 10.30am to 4pm on Friday, while Council’s Museums Service will have fun activities for children in their new children’s area.

Saturday will feature vintage cars, live music, dance displays, and the best artisan produce at the Naturally North Coast & Glens Artisan Market, located at Castlecroft Square in the town centre from 11am to 4pm on both Friday and Saturday. A pop-up market will also be available on Church Street on Saturday.

For individuals with additional needs, Quiet Time Activities will be running on Church Street and Seymour Street from 11am to 12 noon on Saturday, offering a peaceful and enjoyable experience. From 12pm to 4pm, Castlecroft Square will be the center of entertainment, with a special performance by Ritchie Remo. The fair will be opened by the Kelly Neill Dance Company, showcasing their own dances and a new maypole dance performance for 2024. FUSE FM and CJ Entertainments will keep the crowd entertained until Ritchie takes the stage at 12.30pm.

While the festivities continue at Castlecroft Square, Ravara Obedience and Agility Club will be hosting an obstacle test for dogs at Taggarts Yard. Attendees can bring their dogs along to participate or simply marvel at the skills of the trained dogs in action.

Seymour Street will offer a variety of free fun rides and carnival games for the whole family to enjoy. Whether it’s mastering mini golf or winning a prize at a carnival game, there’s something for everyone to have a thrilling time.

The fair will culminate in a spectacular carnival parade and vintage car cavalcade, starting from the Town Hall and traveling along High Street, Main Street, and Meeting House Street at 3.30pm. The parade will showcase old-time cars, floats, music, and vibrant colors, creating a spring-themed spectacle. Local boutiques and businesses will also be offering special Spring Fair deals, allowing attendees to indulge in some retail therapy.

As an added bonus, participants can take part in the Ballymoney Rocks treasure rock hunt by finding special rocks hidden around town. Entry forms can be picked up at the Visitor Information Centre, offering a chance to win exciting prizes.
