Car set alight following police chase, as two males in their 20’s are arrested on suspicion of driving offences

Two police cars rammed in two days.   Police had a lucky escape after their car was rammed on the M22 while trying to stop a BMW on Saturday and a second incident occurred on Sunday on the A26 ending at Carrowquin Road Armoy in North Antrim . Police Road Policing patrols from Maydown helped to bring a pursuit to a close on Sunday, when they detected a speeding driver on the Frosses Road main A26. The driver refused to stop. A Police Dog Handler, Police Helicopter Air Support and local Police were tasked , two arrests were made at after a ramming at the carrowquin Road Armoy. Police enquiries are continuing. Two men aged 26 and 24 years old man have been arrested following a police pursuit which began in the Springmount Road area of Ballymena this morning (Sunday 26th April).

Sergeant Hughes said: “Shortly after 11:30am, it was reported that a grey Audi A4 car failed to stop for police in the area which resulted in the vehicle being pursued by specially trained officers.  During this time, the police car was rammed a number of times by the vehicle before making off from the scene. Two officers in the car received minor injuries as a result of the incident.

“The car was later found alight in the Carrowcrin Road area of Armoy shortly before 11:45am. Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service attended the scene and extinguished the fire.”


“Both men were arrested a short time later on suspicion of various driving offences and are both currently assisting police with their enquiries.

“We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or who captured footage should contact police on 101, quoting reference 730 26/04/20”
