Maternity services must return to Causeway – Bradley

East Londonderry MLA, Maurice Bradley, has called for maternity services to return to Causeway hospital.

Speaking on the matter Mr Bradley said: “It is vital that maternity services are returned to Causeway Hospital as soon as possible”.

That’s the call from MLA Maurice Bradley who has today (Monday) written to the Chief Executive of the Trust asking for an update on the return of the service.

Bradley says he has been contacted by numerous expectant mothers who have raised concerns about having to drive past a ‘perfectly good’ unit at Causeway on route to Altnagelvin or Antrim.

“I share the concerns of those that have been in touch and I am hopeful of an update from the Chief Executive, Ms Jennifer Welsh in the very near future.”

The Coleraine based MLA went on: “I was pleased to see a number of recruitment events in the past few months focusing on jobs at Causeway and I know that there are currently a number of roles being advertised.

“It is my view that the Trust needs to be doing more to sell the Causeway hospital to potential employees.

“I would be hopeful that now that the Medical School at Magee has been given the go ahead, the Trust could look at linking in with students from the University of Ulster Magee and Coleraine campuses in a teaching or research capacity.” said Bradley.
