As a new week and month begins, the PSNI has a new Chief Constable.

Simon Byrne takes over the top job in the PSNI from Sir George Hamilton who officially stepped down from the role on Friday.

Speaking about his time as Chief Constable, Mr Hamilton said;

“It is time to hang up my boots. Serving the community as Chief Constable has been the greatest honour. Thank you for a wonderful 34 years as a Police Officer, every second was a privilege. I wish CC Simon Byrne and the PSNI every success in the future.”

Simon Byrne, who is originally an English police officer, will continue to face several challenges in the top role including recruitment, legacy issues and the continuing treats to the peace process.
