Party colleague and friend Councillor Ivor Wallace has paid tribute to Alderman John Finlay following the death of the DUP stalwart.

During the recent annual general meeting of council, John had the privilege of presenting the chain of office to new Mayor, Ivor Wallace, a position John himself was supposed to take up before ill health prevented him from doing so.

The Mayor of Causeway Council wrote this of his friend this morning: “Alderman John Finlay will be sorely missed by us all. As mayor, I want to pass on my thoughts and prayers to John’s wife Linda and daughters Naomi and Rebecca and his wider family circle.

“John had a great faith in his Lord and saviour and by now he has met him face to face. His faith and his family were his priority but he just loved serving his constituents in and around Causeway Coast and Glens.

“John was generous with his time and his money and would never have seen anyone stuck.

“I’m opening book of condolence tomorrow morning in Ballymoney town hall

“John 14 gives us all great comfort. A place was already prepared. ‘Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.’
